Planning Your Resolutions Ahead of Time

Now that we’re in the final month of the year, it’s time to start looking ahead. Most people like to whip up a new year’s resolution on the first day of the new year, but if you ask me, that’s a little late to decide something so impactful. It’s no wonder so many resolutions fall to the wayside. If people took them more seriously and had drafted them ahead of time, we’d see a lot more change and goal accomplishment in our friends and family members.

For a lot of these goals, they almost always involve tangible objectives to reach, like losing weight, traveling to a beautiful destination internationally, saving so much money, and putting on muscle. But what about the intangible goals? Why don’t we emphasize behavior, mental health, knowledge, and a lot of those other great things about our health and lives? I think those are the most valuable resolutions anyone could put down for themselves, and they’re the ones that typically are much more enlightening and rewarding for longer than a mere year.

Since 2020 is on the near horizon, I implore you to out something new. Perhaps you’d like to see what you could do by modeling after a few of my own goals.

Give
Donate to charity. Donate to a non-profit organization. Donate food. Donate clothes. Donate your time.

These are much easier to accomplish than most people let on. The problem is “finding the time”, which is abundant for most people. It’s just a matter of focusing on the right things in life. Attempt to give more this upcoming year, even if it’s just a few dollars each month. A little goes a long way when everyone is giving.

Focus on being positive
As hard as it may sound, this is not that hard to actually do. It’s just hard to remember to do, more than anything. But if you can remember to look at the bright side, smile, compliment others, request things nicely, and do your absolute best, you’re making your community, home, office, or whatever else a much better and more positive place. This is all it takes.

More gifts isn’t a bad thing
Cardboard boxes are the king of gift giving. Make sure to set aside a few cardboard boxes you’ll inevitably open around the holidays this December and put the names of close friends or family members on each. This will remind you to get them a gift randomly throughout the year. Don’t make it for their birthday, mother’s or father’s day, or other major holidays. Just do it out of the blue and watch the look on their face.

How To Keep Up With Belongings During A Move

Moving requires a lot of focus and energy. Sometimes, when our energy is compromised we face the possibilities of forgetting things. It is hard enough accepting that we need to move, however, we make the list of items while we're already overwhelmed. This contributes to forgetting things. Especially if you hire movers. You can pack everything and store it safely, but then you forget to check hideaway places like cupboards and tiny closets. If you are moving anytime soon, here are a few tips to help you stay organized and hopefully remember a few things you could easily forget.

Commonly forgotten items
Random kitchen stuff: fridge magnets, food, the dishes in dishwasher, and kitchen cabinet items. Check up high also. Hidden valuables. Check all secret hiding spots. Borrowed items, including books. Clothes at the dry cleaners. Outdoor equipment, be sure to check the garage and shed for any tools, hoses or stored items. Attic items or crawl space items can be forgotten. Check bathroom for plungers and other toiletries. Look for clothes hung behind the doors. Look for small wall hangings, lamps and other fixtures. Prescription medication and important files and documents. Make sure to leave the necessary things behind for the new owners, such as garage door opener, any keys or padlocks. You want to give the new owners access to everything in the home.

Organize room by room
Start inside and work your way out. Pack each room starting with the bedroom. Pack clothes, bedding and other possessions. Label each box stating its contents and which bedroom. You may also want to use this time as a chance to consolidate your things. Make a pile or use one of your cardboard boxes as a donation box and add to it as you go along. Don't forget to mark fragile on any special boxes.

Make a schedule and reminders
Take your borrowed stuff with you. Transfer or cancel memberships to avoid empty fees. Make a list to keep up with them if you need to. Use sticky notes to remind yourself of pressing items. Place them in visible places to be sure you will see them and take action. Be prepared before your move date. You still have to clean your home. Make a checklist so you stay on top of things and set alarms on your phone.

Eat something
Another priority to remember is you. Try to stay hydrated and nourished so your brain and body can continue to function properly during this stressful time. Eat throughout the day to keep replacing the energy being zapped away by the move and stress. Try pre-ordering your food in case you forget and its too late to eat once you decide to take a break.

Hire a professional mover
Moving can be extremely tough on your own. If you can't get time off from work, it can be even more overwhelming keeping track of everything. Movers offer services including cleaning, labeling, packing, moving and others. They can handle the move from start to finish. Get an experienced mover that is sensitive to needs of the customer and wants to be as supportive as possible. Movers can help you think about the tiny details and make the transition more seamless.
